Hot Women Campaign Supporter Claire Hurren

UK GP Claire Hurren talks about her work on a polar bear conservation which spurred her into action on climate change, why ecotoxing can be good for you and how supporting Hot Women Campaign can help women understand the environmental issues of the day.

I have been aware of climate change for many years but was spurred into action 3 years ago when I saw the devestating effects of climate change for myself. I was a volunteer with Earthwatch (an environmental charity) working on a polar bear conservation project in Hudson Bay, Canada. We shared our research station with scientists doing research into climate change. Late night discussions with these scientists about the impact of climate change coupled with working with the polar bears and realising that they could soon become extinct because of the melting arctic ice, made me realise how important it is to do my bit to reduce my carbon footprint.

I support the Hot Women Campaign because it encourages women to examine their lifestyles and to make changes which may help to fight climate change. Small changes that we make can soon add up to reduce our impact upon the planet. By making these changes we can live healthier lives (by walking or cycling instead of using our cars when possible), we can save money (by reducing our electricity, oil and gas usage), and we can have a more relaxing lifestyle (by using the train instead of cars or flying). In addition to all of this we can feel proud that we are doing our bit to fight climate change. Ecotoxing is a good idea for everyone.

Earthwatch strives to build awareness and understanding about environmental issues and climate change by involving ordinary people in hands on field research and educational events but is a non-campaigning organization, which is why Hot Women is such a great idea to support.
