Hot Women Campaign Supporter Lucy EgwuonwuLondon based jewellery designer and company director Lucy Egwuonwu speaks about her support for the Hot Women Campaign, why ecotoxing is a great discipline and how she believes that jewellery can communicate the perils of the planet. The Hot Women Campaign appeals to me as a designer because it focuses on educating women about the impact of fashion fads on the environment.. It’s even made me reflect on what I do when I create something. It does have implications. Is this an item we need? Is this just adding to the waste problem? Or, is this good enough to stand the test of time? It really puts you on you metal! That’s why I think ecotoxing is a good idea. It’s all about asking these sort of questions so that gradually we will change to a more ecofriendly way of life that suits us better. It’s a strict discipline imposed because of our new awareness but it has a positive side to it which I like. Hot Women is about making women aware of global warming which is what I’m all behind. I think women in particular are so busy with our day to day responsibilities to family and friends and work colleagues we don’t always think to put the planet at the top of the list. I like the fact that the campaign informs us that no matter how small a change we make to our lifestyle, it will have an impact. Its a positive message. I was inspired to create a bangle for the Hot Women Campaign because I believe in this campaign so much I wanted to do something to support it, to help get the message out there to women who follow fashion. Jewellery is a timeless trend. A favourite piece of jewellery won’t just become landfill in five minutes. It will be treasured, it is personal, its relatively small and it will probably be handed on. Plus I wanted women to say ‘Where do you get that bangle?’ and that way they would learn about the Hot Women Campaign and what it really means. I'm in
the business of creating lovely jewellry. Hopefully if a woman wears my
bangle she will reflect on what the Hot Women Campaign stands for. And
when other people see her wearing it they’ll say, ‘that lady cares about
our future’.
